“photography composition” course is part of a greater body of studies in Architecture connected to the city life, design, contemporary art and culture.
Τhe course presents different aspects of photography theory and at the same time emphasizes on how to make conscious photography in different contexts including, public place, contemporary and historical buildings, urban and natural landscapes, experimental work etc.
Main subject is to highlight photography as a creative medium that changes and expands the way we see and understand our environment. Furthermore the gradual development of students' ability to transform their everyday environment into creative photographic images. During the course, they understand that certain parameters of the way we see are located exclusively in the territory of the art of photography and cannot be replaced by other areas of artistic-creative expression.
During the course, important technical terms as well as theoretical concepts such as the Photographic Landscape, the composition, the mediation of the medium, the highlighting of the basic message, the social interaction of information and others, are analyzed in depth, through the basic argument that the photography is a representation and creative expression which receives multiple interpretive approaches depending on the context in which it takes action. However social and cultural parameters also have a strong influence and determine the way we see. From this perspective, photography constitutes a well defined and structured way of perceiving reality, and operates in a multi-layered field beyond its obvious representational qualities.
Photography is a way of reinforcing observation. It reveals before the viewer, a view of the world that is rarely seen or that may be impossible to express otherwise. Furthermore, the photographic process is on the one hand a means of awakening, exercising and developing the creative sensibilities of the individual and on the other a springboard for enriching the urban experience. With these qualities, it’s also a useful tool for architecture and urban design, highlighting parameters that contribute to the aesthetic re-evaluation of the built environment and the urban landscape. In a world that receives countless images every day, photography emphasizes the importance of selective observation and the discovery of new visual approaches within the familiar places of everyday life.
