STUDIO'S PROJECT  (WINTER SEMESTER 2023-2024)

WE ARE THE PLACE -  STUDENT LIFE IN THE CITY OF XANTHI.

​

The sense of place and the perception we get of it is multidimensional. For some people the relationship with the place presents a strong emotional background which is related to their origin and experiences forming a strong mnemonic topography that connects them with the “genius loci".

This year's course focuses on the relationships students develop with the place they study. Relationships formed through an interaction with the place that is direct and multi-layered. Student life is a collective life, however, the majority of students come from different areas than the one they study in, so their relationship with the place of study develops gradually and changes during their five-year stay at the university.

Student life includes a variety of educational, cultural, social and recreational aspects that are of great importance and impact on the local community. Τhe tasks that will concern us in the context of this year's workshop are indicatively the following:

• Student life in the city. Culture, entertainment, communication, active participation, contrasts and relations with the local community.

• Everyday life at the school, relationships, educational process, participation in the workshops of the school.

• everyday life in the student residences, the library, the indoor and outdoor spaces of the School

 

Tutorials and workshops introduce students to different photography techniques and encourage the deeper observation and the interpretation of our living place. Regular discussions of ongoing work take place in group presentations and critiques. 

The work tasks, aim to improve the way we see our living environment but also to develop synthetic and photographic skills with a central reference to the place of our student life.

The development of creativity and new ways of expression through the art of photography as well as a deeper knowledge and understanding of the place of study is required.

In this context, you are invited to use the expressive possibilities of the photographic medium as well as all the already acquired perceptual and synthetic skills from your studies in architecture so far, in order to give a personal look at the collective character of student life in the city of Xanthi and to express in your own creative way the different aspects of this special period of your life.

The course aims to develop a collective spirit. Always keep in mind that communication, not competition, is an important step in forming a deeper awareness of work and creativity.

 

File specifications for final delivery of student assignments :          A maximum of 15-20 selected photos from the main body of work, which will correspond to distinct expressions of student life in Xanthi. All photos are delivered in a .jpg format with a resolution of 72dpi and a maximum dimension of 800pixels Α short text of no more than 300 words will accompany your work and explain your intentions and the method you have chosen to follow.
